Operation vs Integration:
specialized technologies used in dentistry such as dental operating microscopes, lasers and Cerec for example, require specific
training on how to operate the equipment. However, knowing how to operate the equipment alone does not ensure that the technology
(or procedure) will be successfully integrated to daily practice. Put another way, there is a big difference between knowing
HOW to operate a specific technology and knowing how to proficiently operate WITH a specific technology. The latter typically
requires additional planning and training beyond the basic training provided by some equipment manufacturers and is the cornerstone
to successful technology integration.
Systematic Approach to Dental Technology Integration
Having implemented and fully
integrated a number of dental technologies to practice in a short period of time (2004-2005), I have developed a systematic
approach to technology integration which starts before a particular technology is even acquired. All too often I see various
technologies in doctor's offices not being utilized to its fullest potential and sometimes, not being used at all! The reasons
for this are typically many and multifaceted, but with proper planning and training, this scenario can be completely avoided.
Once a dental technology is acquired,
our goal is to get you implementing efficiently with minimal frustration. We use the context of your practice dynamics to
identify and develop the strategies and behaviors necessary for the successful integration of technology to occur.
